Health care is complicated, even when you work for the largest health insurance company in the world.
That’s why UnitedHealth Group set out to educate our own employees about an important feature of their health plan – the Health Savings Account.
The goal: help employees understand how an HSA works so they can take control of their health care dollars.
To do this, we created an engaging video, 14 minutes of all things HSA – from how to contribute to how to spend those HSA dollars.
(Video clip plays: “Once you’ve saved enough money in your HSA, you can pay yourself back.”)
After watching the video, employees were asked to take a short quiz about what they learned. Their incentive? $100 for their HSA.
We were hoping for 60% participation. Instead, nearly 70% of eligible employees watched the video and took the quiz.
More than 3,500 employees took the next step – they increased their contributions to their HSA. Now more than 82% of employees contribute to their HSA.
And 96% of the employees who earned the incentive say the video taught them something about their HSA.
Proof that a well-organized, well-produced educational campaign can make a difference – it can deliver results.
